Kathryn acts as General Counsel for JBIS. She has over 15 years of top-tier legal experience, having practised with two national firms in Calgary and a securities boutique in Vancouver. Kathryn’s extensive transactional experience includes representing start-ups to multinationals in complex cross-border M&A transactions, public and private offerings, international business restructurings and integrations, and corporate structuring. This experience and the inherent uncertainty of business transactions have taught Kathryn to approach legal problems from a practical, solution-focused perspective.

As the former owner and operator of a microbrewery, Kathryn also brings a personal understanding of the demands of business and an entrepreneurial drive. Outside of work, Kathryn enjoys travelling and outdoor activities with her family, including hiking, biking and paddle-boarding. Kathryn received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Calgary and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta. She is a member of the Law Society of Alberta.

During this time, he helped the business raise over $250 million in a combination of debt and equity.

He has a deep understanding of finance function design and has led teams both large and small, in fast-growing and dynamic environments.Steve obtained his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 2010. She studied Business Communication at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University), as well as Fundraising Management and Marketing Management at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Beyond her role at JBIS Susan is an active member of the Canada, Australia & New Zealand Business Association and serves as a mentor with the Ted Rogers Sales Leadership Program at Toronto Metropolitan University. She is also dedicating time to learning Canada’s second official language, with the goal of applying it in both business and personal pursuits.

Gord is a 35+ year financial services professional, currently focused on innovative private client and corporate structuring, including where applicable, with indigenous partners as well as early stage venture capital. He is a Director with JBIS as well as a Director and Co-Founder of IWF, which builds partnerships between corporate Canada and Indigenous communities for mutual benefit.


His most recent experience in domestic and international financial services includes serving as President of Cidel Trust Company, a national trust company and asset management firm, and as Co-Head of the Caribbean for RBC International Wealth Management before Cidel. He has also held senior leadership roles with CIBC and RBC, with responsibilities spanning corporate strategy, governance, sales management, investment management, fiduciary services, philanthropic planning, cross-border structuring, risk management (including captive insurance), and training and development.Gord has served on numerous for-profit and not-for-profit boards. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP), Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA) and Corporate Director (ICD.d).
